She introduced me to and taught me about the sacred master of Nhe\u2019\u00ebr\u00ff: Ka\u2019a.<\/p>\n<p>Ela contava que Ka\u2019a e Taku\u00e1 eram as filhas de Nhanderu. Um dia, andando pela Terra, ele pegou um galhinho de cedro e assoprou, criando assim uma crian\u00e7a, que brincava e urinava por todo canto. Ent\u00e3o nasceu um brotinho de erva mate, a Ka\u2019\u00e1. Era uma menina e ela j\u00e1 cantava com takuapu. Por isso que at\u00e9 hoje as mulheres cantam batendo o bast\u00e3o de taquara no ch\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Taku\u00e1 and Ka\u2019a left with Nhanderu when the world caught fire, the big water came and everything ended. But, to this day, the Guarani have mate herb to do their chimarr\u00e3o \u2013 a bitter infusion served in a gourd \u2013 and taquara for the takaupu \u2013 and also to weave straw for sieves and baskets.<\/p>\n<p>Nhe\u2019e kuery, the spirits who live with Nhanderu, are telling the prayers that the earth is going to end again. There has already been a period of darkness in the old days. There was no more sunrise, and yet the water came.<\/p>\n<p>In this earth we are now, sooner or later this will happen too. If it doesn't happen, we won't be able to stand the increasingly hot weather, and rain will come, yap\u00f3 h\u00e1\u2019pu\u00e1 tatareve\u2019gua, clay with fire from the sky, will come.<\/p>\n<p>Nhanderu thinks the world is too old and wants to clean the earth.<\/p>\n<p>This is how Kunh\u00e3 Tat\u00e1 used to tell us, giving us guidance on how to walk around the Earth, how to respect time, understanding the direction of the winds, clouds and thunder.<\/p>\n<p>For the Guarani people, time splits in two: Ara Ym\u00e3, the old time, and Ara Pyau, the new time. Whenever times change, it is customary to perform the Ka\u2019a ceremony for protection and strengthening.<\/p>\n<p>Now we are beginning another Ara Ym\u00e3, time of concentration and seclusion. There is no precise date on which times change. But the Tup\u00e3 kuery, the thunders, pass sending warnings.
